Maud Clarke (1887-1982)

Born 28 April 1887. Father: plumber and shopkeeper. 7 children. Educated at dame school (1891); Board School (1892-1900); evening classes at Clough’s College (1907-9). Married, 1913. Lived in Tipton and West Bromwich, moving into progressively more comfortable and spacious surroundings.

Teacher (1900-13), though only fully certificated from 1909.

No details of interests or activities.

Clarke describes in detail her ‘comfortable’ childhood, with full descriptions of her schools, schooling and the training of teachers. The narrative is supplemented by family photographs, newscuttings and diagrams. Written in 1978.
